Pixel 10a adds 30W charging but retains familiar hardware

Google Pixel 10a has officially launched, bringing modest hardware refinements while largely retaining the formula introduced with last year’s Pixel 9a. The mid-range device keeps the same starting price across key markets, but most of the upgrades are incremental rather than transformative.

At its core, the Pixel 10a runs on Google’s Tensor G4 chipset, the same processor used in the Pixel 9 series. Built on Samsung’s 4nm process, the chip is paired with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. In practical terms, performance should mirror last year’s model, with Google continuing to rely heavily on software optimization and AI-driven features to differentiate the device from other mid-range Android phones.

The phone ships with Android 16 and comes with a commitment of seven years of software updates, including regular Pixel Feature Drops. AI tools remain central to the Pixel experience, with Gemini and Gemini Live integrated for voice-based assistance and contextual features across the system.

Sustainability remains a key theme. According to Google, the Pixel 10a incorporates recycled cobalt, copper, gold and tungsten, with recycled materials accounting for at least 36% of the phone’s weight. The aluminum frame is made from 100% recycled material, and packaging is fully plastic-free. The back panel uses 81% recycled plastic.

The display remains a 6.3-inch Actua panel, though peak brightness has increased to 3,000 nits, up from 2,700 nits on the previous model. Durability sees a more tangible upgrade with the move to Gorilla Glass 7i, replacing Gorilla Glass 3. The device retains its IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Camera hardware is unchanged, featuring a 48MP main sensor and a 13MP ultra-wide. As in previous Pixel models, Google is leaning on computational photography to enhance results. Features such as Camera Coach, Auto Best Take, and Add Me aim to improve group photos and provide guided shooting assistance rather than introducing new hardware capabilities.

Battery capacity remains at 5,100mAh, with Google estimating up to 30 hours of regular use. The main hardware improvement is charging speed. Wired charging increases to 30W, up from 23W, while wireless charging rises to 10W from 7.5W.

Design changes are minimal. The camera bar remains nearly flush with the rear panel, and color options include Fog, Obsidian, Berry, and Lavender. Accessories include a color-matched protective case made from recycled plastic, though neither the phone nor the case supports magnetic accessories.

Pricing remains consistent with its predecessor. In India, the 8GB/128GB model starts at ₹50,000, with availability beginning March 6. In the United States, pricing starts at $500, while the UK and European prices are set at £500 and €550 respectively, with a $100/£100/€100 premium for the 256GB storage option.

Overall, the Pixel 10a represents a steady update rather than a major leap forward. Faster charging and improved screen durability are practical enhancements, but buyers upgrading from the Pixel 9a may find the differences limited. For new customers entering the Pixel ecosystem, long-term software support and AI-driven features remain the device’s strongest arguments in a competitive mid-range market.
