Pinterest is introducing a new wave of AI-driven personalization features aimed at making its signature boards more interactive and customized for each user. Announced Monday, the updates center on two experimental tools — Styled for you and Boards made for you — that use generative AI to curate outfits, recommend Pins, and create dynamic, shoppable collections.
The Styled for you feature allows users to mix and match fashion items from their saved Pins to create complete outfits. By tapping an item within an AI-generated collage, users can swipe through additional recommendations, refining combinations based on their personal aesthetic. The idea is to transform static Pins into adaptive fashion tools that mirror a user’s taste and shopping habits.
Meanwhile, Boards made for you introduces AI-curated collections that combine Pinterest’s editorial expertise with algorithmic suggestions. These boards feature trending looks, weekly outfit inspiration, and shoppable links, appearing in users’ home feeds and inboxes. The company says the initiative is part of a broader effort to make boards “a more personalized way to explore, shop, and get inspired,” positioning Pinterest closer to an AI-powered shopping assistant than a traditional moodboard platform.
Both features are being tested initially in the U.S. and Canada, with a broader rollout expected in the coming months. The company is also refreshing the user interface with new tabs that categorize Pins into themed sections. A Make It Yours tab will recommend fashion and home decor products based on a user’s saved content, while More Ideas suggests related Pins in areas like recipes, beauty, and art. An All Saves tab will let users quickly browse their full collection of saved Pins.
The expansion of AI into Pinterest’s personalization tools follows a broader push by the company to enhance discovery and commerce through intelligent recommendations. During its second-quarter earnings call, Pinterest’s CEO outlined the goal of evolving the platform into an AI-enabled shopping companion — an experience that blends creativity, personalization, and product discovery.
At the same time, Pinterest continues to grapple with the growing presence of AI-generated imagery. Earlier this year, the company introduced labeling requirements for AI-created or modified images and provided users with controls to reduce the amount of such content in their feeds. The dual approach — using AI to enhance personalization while curbing synthetic content — reflects the company’s attempt to balance innovation with authenticity.
If these new experiments prove successful, Pinterest could move beyond being a visual inspiration board to become a more dynamic, AI-informed marketplace that adapts to each user’s tastes in real time.
