OpenAI has rolled out an additional paid tier for its ChatGPT service, priced at $100 per month. The new option sits between the existing $20 per month Plus plan and the higher-end $200 version of Pro, aiming to give users with heavier needs a more accessible upgrade without jumping to the top level.
According to the company, the $100 tier delivers five times more usage of the Codex coding tool compared with the Plus subscription. It is positioned for longer, high-effort coding sessions where sustained access matters. OpenAI notes that the standard Plus plan remains suitable for everyday, moderate use of Codex, while the new tier serves as a step up for those who rely on it more intensively throughout the day.
The move appears designed to compete directly with Anthropic’s Claude Max tier, which carries the same $100 monthly price and focuses on advanced coding capabilities. At the same time, OpenAI maintains multiple entry points: an $8 per month Go tier, the free version, and the two distinct Pro levels. The lower Pro tier still includes access to all existing Pro features, though the $200 version provides even greater usage limits.
This expansion reflects the growing demand for robust AI coding assistance as developers and power users push the tools further. With competitors like Claude gaining traction in code-related tasks, OpenAI is adjusting its pricing structure to retain users who need more capacity than the basic paid plan offers but do not require the highest tier.
The new $100 ChatGPT Pro subscription is available now, giving subscribers increased headroom for complex, extended coding work while keeping costs below the premium Pro level. As AI coding tools become central to many workflows, such mid-tier options may help balance accessibility and performance for a wider range of professional users.
