OnePlus has confirmed that its next flagship, the OnePlus 15, will launch globally shortly after its October debut in China. Alongside the standard release, the company will introduce a special “Sand Storm” edition, highlighting both design and durability upgrades.
The Sand Storm variant features a new aerospace-grade Micro-Arc Oxidation process, which uses high-voltage plasma to create a ceramic layer on the mid-frame and camera housing. According to OnePlus, this coating is significantly more durable than conventional smartphone materials, offering over three times the strength of aluminum and more toughness than titanium. The rear panel uses lightweight fiberglass for a blend of smooth grip and cool ceramic texture, aiming to balance comfort with resilience.
Under the hood, the OnePlus 15 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, making it among the first globally available phones with the processor. The device will also feature OnePlus’ enhanced cooling system, designed to sustain performance during gaming and other demanding tasks.
While the company has yet to fully detail the camera specifications, it has begun sharing sample photos from the new setup. Rumors suggest a 50MP main sensor with optical image stabilization, an ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP Samsung JN5 periscope telephoto camera capable of 3x optical zoom. OnePlus’ in-house DetailMax Engine will handle image processing.

Speculation also points to the OnePlus Ace 6, launching alongside the 15 in China, being rebranded as the OnePlus 15R in India, though the company has not confirmed this.
The global rollout of the OnePlus 15 — particularly the Sand Storm edition with its durability-focused design — signals the company’s intent to compete not just on raw performance but also on materials and build quality. With its early adoption of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and continued emphasis on camera capabilities, the device is positioned as a direct rival to other late-2025 flagships from Samsung, Xiaomi, and Apple.
