Nothing has resumed the rollout of its Android 16–based Nothing OS 4.0 update, expanding availability to additional budget-focused smartphones after a brief pause caused by critical software issues. The update is now reaching the CMF Phone 1, with the CMF Phone 2 Pro and Nothing Phone (3a) Lite scheduled to follow as part of the next rollout phase.
The Nothing OS 4.0 update had initially launched in November 2025 for higher-tier models, including the Nothing Phone (2), Phone (2a), and Phone (2a) Plus. However, the company temporarily halted deployment after users reported stability concerns. According to Nothing, those issues have since been addressed, allowing the update cycle to resume across a wider range of devices.
For CMF Phone 1 users, the update began rolling out on December 26, 2025. As with previous Nothing OS releases, distribution is being handled in stages, meaning availability may differ depending on region and carrier. Users who have not yet received a notification can manually check for the update through the system settings menu. The CMF Phone 2 Pro is expected to receive Nothing OS 4.0 in the coming weeks, while the Nothing Phone (3a) Lite is included in the same expanded support window.
Nothing OS 4.0 introduces a series of visual and functional refinements rather than a dramatic redesign. The update focuses on interface consistency, smoother animations, and expanded customization tools that align with Android 16’s core framework. While Nothing has emphasized improvements to overall usability, the changes appear to prioritize incremental polish over headline-grabbing features. This approach may appeal to users who value stability and clarity over experimental additions, particularly in the budget segment where performance efficiency remains a priority.
The company has also cautioned that rollout timelines are not uniform worldwide. Factors such as regional testing requirements and network compatibility may delay the update in certain markets. As a result, some users may experience longer wait times despite official confirmation of support.
With Nothing OS 4.0 now extending to CMF-branded devices and the Phone (3a) Lite, the company is signaling continued software support across its lower-cost lineup. While the update does not radically change how these phones function day to day, it reinforces Nothing’s broader strategy of maintaining a consistent software experience across price tiers, even after early rollout challenges.
