Nothing Phone 3 Debuts with Rear Display, Faster Chip, and Improved Cameras

The Nothing Phone 3 has officially launched, introducing a distinctive rear micro-LED display that replaces its predecessor’s Glyph Interface and signals a notable design shift for the brand. This new feature, called the Glyph Matrix, is a deliberately low-resolution screen designed with a retro dot matrix aesthetic, staying true to Nothing’s visual identity. Beyond visual appeal, the Glyph Matrix serves multiple functions, displaying a battery indicator, stopwatch, mirror, digital clock, solar clock, and several simple games called Glyph Toys. Users can cycle through these with a dedicated button on the back, while the display retains earlier Glyph functionalities such as per-contact notifications and progress indicators.

Nothing has also released a Glyph Matrix SDK, enabling community developers to create additional games and tools that could extend its functionality over time. This approach hints at Nothing’s strategy to foster an ecosystem built around its most unique hardware feature.

On the hardware front, the Phone 3 addresses limitations seen in the Phone 2, particularly its camera system. The new model includes a 50MP main sensor (1/1.3”) with optical image stabilisation, a 50MP ultrawide sensor, and a 50MP periscope camera offering 3x optical zoom, all capable of recording 4K video at 60fps. The front camera has also been upgraded to a 50MP sensor with a 114-degree field of view, making it better suited for wide group selfies and video calls.

The front display is a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with peak HDR brightness up to 4500 nits, adaptive refresh rates ranging from 30Hz to 120Hz, and 2160Hz PWM dimming for reduced eye strain in low-light conditions. The bezels measure a slim 1.87mm uniformly around the screen, while overall thickness has been reduced by 18% compared to the Phone 2. The device is also IP68 certified for water and dust resistance.

Battery specifications vary by region. Global variants, including those for UAE and GCC markets, come with a 5,150mAh battery. Both support 65W wired charging alongside 15W wireless charging. Performance is driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, offering up to 60% faster CPU performance, an 88% GPU boost, and 125% faster photo processing compared to the previous generation.

The Nothing Phone 3 launches with Nothing OS 3.5 built on Android 15, incorporating new AI features such as Essential Space, Essential Search, and Flip To Record. The company has committed to five years of major Android updates and seven years of security updates, with Android 16 and Nothing OS 4.0 expected to arrive in Q3 2025.

In the UAE and GCC, the Nothing Phone 3 will be available starting July 17 in both black and white finishes. It comes in two configurations: 12GB RAM with 256GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 512GB storage, positioning it as a premium Android device with design-driven differentiation backed by flagship hardware capabilities.
