New Spotify integration lets users import playlists from rival music apps

Spotify is adding a built-in playlist transfer option to its mobile app, lowering one of the biggest barriers for people considering a move from another streaming service. The company has integrated TuneMyMusic directly into the Spotify interface, allowing users to bring over playlists from a wide range of competing platforms without relying on separate apps or paid tiers.

The feature, rolling out now, lives in the Your Library section of the Spotify app. Scrolling to the bottom reveals an Import Your Music option beneath Add podcasts & shows. Tapping it launches a guided setup that connects to TuneMyMusic and prompts users to choose which service they want to import from. Once completed, the selected playlists appear in the Spotify library alongside existing albums and mixes. Nothing is deleted from the original platform; the tool simply creates copies on Spotify.

TuneMyMusic supports many major streaming services, including Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, iTunes, SoundCloud, Last.fm, and Pandora. Until now, users had to use the standalone service, which limits free transfers to 500 tracks unless a subscription is purchased. By incorporating the tool directly into its app, Spotify removes that cap, giving subscribers an easier and more cost-efficient way to migrate large libraries.

The update arrives as several major streaming companies move toward more frictionless switching. Apple Music introduced its own playlist-importing feature earlier this year, allowing YouTube Music playlists to sync directly through iOS, iPadOS, and the Android version of Apple Music. These efforts suggest that even established platforms recognize that users no longer want music collections locked into a single app, especially as people increasingly use multiple devices and switch subscriptions based on pricing or features.

Spotify has not disclosed financial terms or technical details behind the integration. The timing, however, follows a period of pushback over some of the company’s business decisions, as well as Apple’s recent introduction of a built-in importing tool. Making playlist migration simpler is a pragmatic move: it reduces the time and effort needed to onboard new listeners while addressing long-standing complaints about the difficulty of switching from other services.
