Logitech’s new solar-powered slim keyboard means no more charging for Mac users

Logitech has launched a new addition to its accessory lineup for Mac users: the Signature Slim Solar+ K980, a slim wireless keyboard that charges entirely through light. Priced at $99, the keyboard is available starting today and aims to undercut Apple’s Magic Keyboard with Numpad while eliminating the need for charging cables altogether.

The K980 doesn’t rely solely on sunlight. Logitech designed the keyboard to recharge using virtually any light source—desk lamps, overhead lights, or ambient indoor lighting all work. For those worried about leaving it in a dark office or drawer, the keyboard can continue running for up to four months in complete darkness once fully charged.

Despite its understated design, the K980 offers a full-size layout with a built-in numpad. While not everyone is a fan of the added bulk, users who frequently work with spreadsheets or numerical inputs will likely welcome the inclusion. Logitech also claims the key switches have been tuned for comfort, making the keyboard a solid choice for extended typing sessions.

The device is tailored specifically for Mac users, with the expected macOS key layouts and shortcuts in place. Through Logitech’s Options+ software, owners can remap keys and customize their workflow further. The keyboard is available in Graphite, aligning with Logitech’s current Mac-focused design language.

At $99, the Signature Slim Solar+ K980 positions itself as a more practical alternative to Apple’s Magic Keyboard with Numpad. With light-powered charging and long-lasting reserves, it removes the hassle of ever needing to plug in or replace batteries, making it an attractive option for users looking to streamline their desk setup.
