LG has outlined its 2026 Gram laptop lineup ahead of CES, continuing to prioritize low weight while expanding its focus on durability and on-device AI features. The new models build on the identity the Gram series has maintained for years, but this refresh shows an effort to address past criticisms around sturdiness and to align more closely with current software trends.
One of the most significant changes is the introduction of Aerominum, a new magnesium-aluminum alloy developed using aerospace-inspired manufacturing techniques. LG says this material allows the laptops to remain extremely light while offering improved structural strength compared to earlier Gram models. Scratch resistance is also said to be better, and LG claims that several configurations have passed military-grade durability tests. While such certifications do not guarantee real-world toughness, they suggest a shift toward balancing weight savings with everyday resilience.
AI features play a more central role across the 2026 lineup. Some models qualify as Microsoft Copilot+ PCs, bringing support for on-device AI acceleration alongside cloud-based services from Microsoft. LG is also introducing its own assistant, gram chat, which runs on the EXAONE 3.5 small language model. Unlike many assistants that rely heavily on cloud connectivity, gram chat is designed to function offline, handling tasks related to productivity and basic creative workflows without an internet connection.
Connectivity has also been updated through a refreshed version of gram Link. LG says the feature now simplifies file sharing and screen mirroring between Gram laptops and Android and iOS phones, as well as LG’s broader ecosystem of displays and smart devices. This reflects a wider industry push to reduce friction between PCs and mobile hardware, rather than locking users into a single platform.
The 2026 Gram lineup spans several form factors, including the gram Pro AI in 17-inch and 16-inch sizes, the convertible gram Pro 360 AI, gram AI models in 14-inch and 15-inch variants, and the gram Book AI. Among these, the North America–exclusive gram Pro AI 17 stands out. LG describes it as the lightest 17-inch laptop with discrete graphics, pairing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 GPU from NVIDIA with a 2560×1600 LCD display in a chassis closer in footprint to a typical 16-inch notebook.
The 16-inch gram Pro AI is similarly notable, weighing just 1,199 grams while including a 77Wh battery and a higher-resolution 2880×1800 OLED display. These specifications highlight LG’s continued focus on portability, even in configurations aimed at more demanding users.
LG plans to showcase the new Gram models at the Consumer Electronics Show starting January 6, with broader availability expected soon after. The 2026 refresh suggests LG is refining rather than reinventing the Gram concept, aiming to preserve its lightweight appeal while addressing durability concerns and integrating more practical AI features.
