Lenovo has appointed Tareq Alangari as senior vice president and president of its Middle East, Türkiye, and Africa (META) business, effective January 5, 2026. Alangari will lead the region from Lenovo’s regional headquarters in Saudi Arabia, a location that reflects the company’s growing operational and commercial focus on the Middle East as a hub for emerging technology investment.
The appointment comes as Lenovo continues to expand its footprint across META, a region where governments and enterprises are investing heavily in digital infrastructure, cloud services, and artificial intelligence. Rather than positioning itself purely as a hardware supplier, Lenovo has been aligning its regional strategy around long-term participation in national digital transformation programs. These include initiatives such as Saudi Vision 2030, the UAE’s national digital agenda, smart city development in Dubai, Qatar National Vision 2030, and continent-wide digitization efforts supported by the African Union. Across these markets, Lenovo is seeking to position its portfolio around applied AI, data center infrastructure, and edge computing, areas where public and private sector demand continues to grow.
Alangari brings more than two decades of experience across technology, telecommunications, cloud platforms, and digital services. Prior to joining Lenovo, he served as chief executive of e& enterprise Saudi Arabia, where he was involved in building and scaling the business across digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and financial technology services. His background is closely aligned with the types of large-scale, multi-sector technology deployments that are increasingly common across the META region.
From Lenovo’s perspective, the hire reflects a desire to combine local market understanding with operational scale. The company’s international leadership has pointed to META as one of its more strategically important regions, driven by population growth, public-sector investment, and enterprise modernization efforts. Matt Zielinski, who oversees Lenovo’s international markets, has described the region as one of the most active globally in areas such as AI, cloud infrastructure, and smart systems, all of which align with Lenovo’s broader portfolio.
Beyond leadership changes, Lenovo has been backing its regional ambitions with physical investments. These include the establishment of its regional headquarters in Riyadh and a manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia developed in partnership with Alat. The goal of these initiatives is to shorten supply chains, improve time-to-market, and deliver products and services that are better adapted to regional requirements, particularly for government and enterprise customers.
Alangari’s role will involve balancing these strategic investments with day-to-day execution across diverse markets, each with distinct regulatory, economic, and technological conditions. His stated focus includes supporting AI adoption, advancing cloud modernization, and contributing to local talent development. Taken together, the appointment signals Lenovo’s intent to move beyond market presence toward deeper, longer-term integration within the META technology ecosystem.
