Kingston’s IronKey D500S USB Drive Becomes First FIPS 140-3 Level 3 Certified and TAA-Compliant Encrypted Drive

Dubai, UAE – July 15, 2025 – Kingston Digital Europe Co LLP, the flash memory affiliate of Kingston Technology Company, Inc., has announced that its flagship IronKey D500S is now the world’s first and only hardware-encrypted USB drive to achieve FIPS 140-3 Level 3 validation while maintaining a TAA-compliant and CMMC-ready trusted supply chain.

Certified under NIST Certificate #5029, the IronKey D500S was engineered and assembled in Kingston’s secure U.S.-based manufacturing center in California. The device was developed with more than just high-level encryption in mind. Its design adheres to the U.S. Trade Agreements Act (TAA) and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) requirements, offering end users—especially in the government and defense sectors—a secure, transparent supply chain.

The D500S features XTS-AES 256-bit encryption and was developed with full component traceability in mind. Critical elements of the device, including secure microprocessors, digitally signed firmware, NAND flash storage, and the PCB assembly, are all sourced from trusted, TAA-compliant suppliers and integrated in the United States under tightly controlled processes.

Among the drive’s advanced security features:

  • FIPS 140-3 Level 3 tamper resistance, including epoxy-filled casing
  • Matching internal and external serial numbers for enterprise asset tracking
  • Dual partition option, allowing Admin and User to securely manage and share files with a hidden file store
  • Crypto-Erase function, enabling complete drive wipe in the event of unauthorized access
  • Global Read-Only mode, offering further control for Admins in secure environments

According to Oscar Escayola Kaloudis, EMEA Flash Business Manager at Kingston, “The IronKey D500S is more than just compliant. It redefines what secure, hardware-encrypted USB drives should be. From CMMC support to secure assembly in the U.S., every detail of the D500S was designed to exceed the expectations of government, military, and enterprise users.”

The D500S is also MIL-STD-810F certified for shock, vibration, and drop resistance, and carries an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. It is encased in a rugged zinc casing and is available in capacities of up to 512GB. Each drive includes a Level 1 charging cord, optional 7kW wallbox, and a three-year warranty, backed by Kingston’s technical support.

This launch comes at a time when demand for secure, trusted hardware solutions is rising across both public and private sectors. As data breaches and supply chain security threats grow more complex, hardware like the D500S plays a critical role in safeguarding sensitive data while meeting compliance standards.
