Kingston introduces dual-connector portable SSD for simple cross-device storage

Kingston has introduced a dual-connector portable SSD designed for users who need a simple way to move and back up data across different devices without relying on cables. The product aims to bridge older and newer hardware by including both USB Type-A and USB Type-C connectors in a compact, flash-drive-style form factor. While portable SSDs are already common in the market, Kingston’s approach focuses on practicality and ease of use rather than adding new categories of features.

The Dual Portable SSD features transfer speeds up to 1,050MB/s read and 950MB/s write when paired with a USB 3.2 Gen 2 host device. These speeds place it in line with many mid-range portable SSDs, making it suitable for moving large files or working with high-resolution media. Kingston is offering capacities up to 2TB, targeting users who frequently handle 4K video, extensive photo libraries, or other data-heavy workflows. Its metal-and-plastic casing is designed to keep the device lightweight at just 13 grams while offering a higher level of durability than typical thumb drives.

Because the SSD plugs directly into a port, it eliminates the need for an additional cable—an element Kingston highlights as a convenience feature rather than a technical advancement. The company positions the device as a straightforward storage tool that fits easily into everyday carry scenarios, whether for students, professionals, or content creators who move data across laptops, desktops, tablets, and certain mobile devices. Compatibility spans Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, and Android, though iOS and iPadOS users may require an OTG adapter, and performance will vary depending on host hardware.

Kingston notes that the SSD includes a limited five-year warranty and free technical support. The product is available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions, though—as with all flash storage—part of the listed capacity is reserved for formatting and device management. Operating temperatures range from 0°C to 60°C, and the device can be stored at temperatures as low as -20°C.

The release extends Kingston’s ongoing effort to provide accessible storage options in an increasingly device-diverse environment. While the Dual Portable SSD does not introduce new storage standards, it reflects the practical needs of users who want a compact, cable-free SSD that works across a wide spectrum of hardware.
