iOS 26.4 beta 4 adds playlist playground and video podcasts

Apple has released the fourth developer beta of iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4, continuing the testing phase ahead of a broader public rollout. The new builds arrive roughly one week after the previous beta versions and are currently available to registered developers through the system update tools on compatible devices.

Developers can install the update by navigating to the software update section inside the Settings app on an iPhone or iPad. As with earlier test versions, the latest beta introduces a combination of new features, smaller interface adjustments, and background improvements that may continue to evolve before the final public release.

One of the more visible changes appears in Apple Music. The update introduces a feature called Playlist Playground, which allows users to generate playlists through short text prompts. Instead of manually selecting songs, listeners can describe a mood, activity, or theme, and the system will assemble a playlist based on that request. The feature reflects a broader shift toward AI-assisted music discovery that is appearing across several streaming platforms.

Apple Music is also adding a Concerts Near You section designed to surface upcoming live performances based on a user’s listening habits and location. In addition, album and playlist pages are receiving visual updates that emphasize full-page artwork, adjusting how music collections appear inside the app.

Another notable addition arrives in Apple Podcasts, which is gaining support for native video podcasts. The update will allow creators to publish video versions of their shows directly within the Podcasts ecosystem. Listeners will be able to watch episodes while still using familiar podcast features such as recommendations, curated selections, and subscription tools.

Messaging technology is also seeing a security-related change. Apple is testing end-to-end encryption support for Rich Communication Services, commonly known as RCS. If implemented fully, the upgrade would bring encrypted messaging to conversations between iPhone and Android users. The feature is currently being evaluated across both iPhone-to-iPhone and cross-platform messaging scenarios.

Several smaller system updates are included in the latest beta as well. Stolen Device Protection, a security feature designed to limit unauthorized access to a lost device, is now enabled by default. The system also introduces an ambient music widget that provides quick access to background audio playback from the home screen.

Health and sleep tracking features are also being expanded. The Sleep app now includes average bedtime tracking, giving users a clearer overview of their sleep habits over time.

Because these builds remain in the beta stage, some features may still change before the update becomes widely available. Apple often adjusts functionality, interface elements, and performance optimizations throughout the testing cycle.

For now, the fourth beta of iOS 26.4 and iPadOS 26.4 offers a clearer picture of what may arrive in the final release, with updates spanning music discovery, podcast publishing, messaging security, and device protection features.
