iOS 18 Beta 1 arrives: get ready to experience the future (but maybe hold off if you’re not a developer)

Hot off the heels of WWDC 2024, Apple has released the first developer beta of iOS 18, kicking off an exciting testing phase that will last until the official launch this fall. This update, along with the first betas of iPadOS 18, macOS 15, tvOS 18, and watchOS 11, is packed with artificial intelligence enhancements, promising a smarter and more personalized experience across your Apple devices.

What’s in Store?

While the exact features in beta 1 remain a mystery, we can expect a slew of AI-powered goodies, including web article summarization, enhanced Apple Music playlist creation, and a turbocharged Calendar app. However, some features might be delayed until later betas or even iOS 18.1.

Developers First, Public Beta Later:

If you’re not a registered developer, it’s wise to hold off on installing the first beta. These early versions are often riddled with bugs and glitches, and some apps might not function properly. While you can usually revert back to stable versions on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, watchOS is a different story, so proceed with caution.

For those eager to get a taste of the future, Apple will release a public beta version next month. That’s the perfect time to test out iOS 18 and other betas without the risk of encountering major issues.

Stay tuned for in-depth coverage of all the new features and improvements coming to your Apple devices with iOS 18 and the other operating system updates this fall.
