Apple has addressed the recent iOS 17.5 bug that caused deleted photos to reappear for some iPhone users. The company clarified that iCloud Photos was not responsible, but rather a local database corruption issue.
While the bug resurfaced photos from as far back as 2010, Apple assured users that no one else had access to these images. The issue was caused by a corrupted local database, not by iCloud Photos storing deleted photos.
The resurfaced photos could have been from previous iCloud Backups or device-to-device transfers. Apple emphasized that resetting an iPhone or iPad completely erases all data, and that only a small number of users were affected.
The company has released iOS 17.5.1 to fix the bug, but users will need to manually delete any resurfaced photos again.Although rare, such bugs can erode user trust, even with a technical understanding of the issue.
