Ikea has introduced its largest smart home expansion to date — a full lineup of 21 Matter-over-Thread devices designed for seamless interoperability across brands and platforms. The new range includes smart bulbs, sensors, remotes, and plugs, all built to work effortlessly with the company’s updated Dirigera hub and Home Smart app.
The rollout confirms Ikea’s long-term shift away from Zigbee toward Matter-over-Thread, an open standard that allows smart home products from different manufacturers to connect directly and reliably. Following the Dirigera hub’s recent firmware update, all users can now use it as a Matter controller, bridging older Ikea smart devices with the new generation of connected products.
Among the highlights is the Kajplats lighting series, a simplified collection of 11 smart bulbs that includes both white-spectrum and color-changing options. The range covers common formats such as E27/E26, E17/E14/E12, and GU10, along with decorative clear-glass bulbs up to 95mm in size. Although Matter-over-Thread replaces Zigbee for new devices, these bulbs remain compatible with older Ikea wireless remotes, ensuring backward usability without requiring the app or hub.

Expanding control options, Ikea’s new Bilresa remotes come in two versions — a minimalist two-button model and another with a scroll wheel for multi-device control. Both can adjust lighting brightness or operate other smart devices, like speakers, through configurable settings. The scroll wheel variant supports multiple groups and can toggle between devices with a button press. Each remote will be sold individually or in color-coded three-packs (red, green, and beige) for easier setup differentiation.

The Grillplats smart plug extends control to non-smart lamps and small appliances, adding remote operation and real-time energy monitoring. Meanwhile, Ikea has introduced a suite of five new smart sensors:
- Myggspray: an indoor/outdoor motion sensor that can trigger lighting or other automations.
- Myggbett: a door and window sensor that sends alerts when opened or closed.
- Klippbok: a compact leak detector designed to fit beneath appliances, featuring both app notifications and a built-in audible alarm.
- Timmerflotte: a puck-shaped temperature and humidity sensor with a simple LED display that cycles through readings.
- Alpstuga: an air quality monitor that tracks CO₂ and PM2.5 levels, along with temperature and humidity, designed to work with Ikea’s air purifiers.

The entire range is Matter-over-Thread certified, meaning the products will integrate with any Matter-enabled system — including Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, and Samsung SmartThings. This approach gives customers the flexibility to build cross-brand setups without being locked into a single ecosystem.

In the UK, the Kajplats bulbs will be priced between £4 and £9 (approximately $5–12 USD), the Bilresa remotes between £3 and £4, and the sensors from £5 to £25 depending on functionality. US availability begins in January 2026 for remotes and sensors, with bulbs following in April.
Ikea’s new collection underscores its growing commitment to universal smart home standards and affordable connected living. By aligning with Matter and Thread, the company aims to simplify setup, expand compatibility, and make smart home technology more approachable for mainstream consumers.
