iCloud for Windows now supports password autofill in Firefox—but only on Windows 11

Apple has rolled out an update to its iCloud for Windows app, adding long-awaited support for password autofill in the Mozilla Firefox browser. The feature allows users who store login credentials in iCloud Keychain to access those credentials directly within Firefox on Windows 11, without having to switch browsers or manually copy and paste passwords.

Previously, password autofill in iCloud for Windows was officially limited to Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge, despite the presence of an Apple-developed iCloud Passwords extension for Firefox. That extension had long been criticized for its unreliability, with many users reporting erratic performance and inconsistent login behavior.

With this update, Apple appears to have addressed those concerns—at least partially. According to early user reports, particularly on platforms like Reddit, the latest version of iCloud for Windows now integrates smoothly with Firefox’s autofill system, enabling more seamless logins for users storing their credentials within the Apple ecosystem.

However, there’s a catch. The new functionality seems to be exclusive to Windows 11. Users running Windows 10 have reported issues ranging from being unable to access the updated iCloud app to the autofill feature failing to appear or function. Apple has yet to confirm whether this is a temporary issue or part of a broader shift in platform support.

The lack of clear communication from Apple has sparked speculation, especially as Microsoft plans to end extended support for Windows 10 later in 2025. Some users are concerned that Apple may be quietly phasing out compatibility for older Windows versions, aligning its development priorities with more current operating systems.

Regardless of the OS limitation, the update represents a meaningful improvement in cross-platform functionality. For users who rely on Apple’s password manager but also use Firefox in a Windows environment—such as professionals in mixed-device workplaces—this change eliminates a longstanding friction point. It brings Apple closer to offering platform parity in its password management experience, something users have been requesting for years.

Still, full rollout will depend on continued support and clarity around compatibility. Until then, Firefox users on Windows 10 may be left waiting—or reconsidering an upgrade to Windows 11 if seamless autofill is essential to their workflow.

The update is now available via the Microsoft Store and is included in the latest version of iCloud for Windows.
