Hytera introduces PDC690 dual-mode Android radio for mission-critical professionals

Hytera Communications has introduced the PDC690, a new dual-mode radio designed to meet the needs of public safety, emergency, and mission-critical professionals. The device merges the reliability of traditional two-way radio systems with the flexibility of a modern Android platform, aiming to streamline communication and situational awareness for frontline teams operating in complex environments.

The PDC690 integrates digital mobile radio (DMR) and LTE technologies, allowing users to switch between public and private networks depending on availability and signal strength. It can also connect to WLAN and direct-mode networks, maintaining communication even in areas with limited coverage. Compatibility with third-party DMR systems ensures interoperability, an important factor for agencies that depend on mixed infrastructure and existing radio investments.

Functionality extends beyond voice communication. The device enables field personnel to capture and transmit images and video directly from the unit for real-time reporting and evidence documentation. Its positioning system combines multiple global navigation constellations — including GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, QZSS, and BeiDou — with assisted GPS, LBS, and WLAN-based tracking to provide accurate location data both indoors and outdoors. These capabilities are aimed at improving coordination, situational visibility, and responder safety.

The PDC690’s hardware reflects the physical demands of emergency and industrial work. Built to MIL-STD-810G standards and rated IP68 for dust and water resistance, it is designed to endure drops, shocks, and extreme weather. A responsive touchscreen, USB Type-C fast charging, and support for power banks add practicality for extended shifts. Audio clarity — a critical feature in noisy field environments — is supported by AI-driven noise cancellation, wind suppression, and a near-field anti-howling system that prevents feedback when users speak close to one another.

Running on a full Android operating system, the PDC690 supports both Hytera and third-party applications, enabling integration with GIS, dispatch, and incident-management platforms. The device is part of a wider ecosystem of accessories such as wireless push-to-talk units and remote microphones. Through Hytera’s MDM Pro software, organizations can remotely program radios, push firmware updates, and monitor device health, reducing downtime and administrative overhead.

With over three decades in professional communications, Hytera continues to develop hybrid radio solutions that merge conventional reliability with connected, software-based tools. The PDC690 reflects this ongoing transition, targeting sectors where uninterrupted, interoperable communication remains essential to public safety and operational continuity.
