Huawei’s Pura 80 Ultra has been awarded DXOMARK’s highest-ever score of 175, placing it at the top of the global smartphone imaging rankings. The score positions Huawei ahead of its rivals by six points and marks new records in both photo and telephoto testing, while also tying for first place in video performance.
The device’s camera system earned a 180 Photo Score, the highest ever awarded by DXOMARK, thanks to its ability to handle difficult lighting conditions and retain detail across wide dynamic ranges. The Pura 80 Ultra uses a 1-inch Ultra Lighting HDR sensor with a 16EV dynamic range, allowing it to balance exposure between bright highlights and deep shadows in complex scenarios. Portrait results benefit from advanced segmentation powered by AI, helping isolate fine details such as hair and jewelry while producing natural-looking background blur. Its variable aperture (f/1.6–f/4.0)further adds flexibility, automatically adjusting depth of field for group or individual shots.
One of the most notable hardware innovations is Huawei’s Switchable Dual Telephoto Camera, which combines a 3.7x medium telephoto and a 9.4x super-telephoto lens into a single unit. This system helped the Pura 80 Ultra secure the highest telephoto score in DXOMARK’s testing, with detailed results at long ranges where other smartphones typically lose sharpness.
On the video front, the device matched the industry-leading 166 Video Score, improving by 10 points over its predecessor. The HDR system maintains detail in both shadows and highlights, while stabilization ensures smooth footage even at higher zoom levels. DXOMARK noted the consistency of exposure and color reproduction in varied conditions, which is particularly relevant for creators shooting handheld in dynamic environments.
Huawei’s XMAGE colour science continues to play a major role. With 1.5 million multi-spectral channels, the system is designed to deliver accurate skin tones and consistent rendering of environmental colors, from natural landscapes to artificial lighting. This integration of hardware and software underpins the phone’s balanced performance across photo, video, and telephoto testing.
The Pura 80 Ultra also reflects Huawei’s push in durability and design. It features second-generation Crystal Armor Kunlun Glass, which the company claims offers 25 times more drop resistance than conventional glass. The device runs EMUI 15, bringing new interactive themes and AI-driven controls, though global users remain limited by the lack of Google Mobile Services.
Launched globally in July, the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra has been marketed primarily as a camera-first flagship, aimed at both enthusiasts and professionals who demand high-end imaging capabilities. While DXOMARK scores are not the sole measure of camera quality, Huawei’s consistent lead in these rankings underscores its ongoing focus on smartphone photography despite its broader challenges in international markets.
With the Pura 80 Ultra now officially ranked as the top-scoring camera phone, Huawei has set a new benchmark for competitors in 2025—particularly in long-range telephoto imaging and dynamic range handling.
