Huawei’s new Pura 80 Series is now available in the UAE, with sales starting August 1 at the company’s online and offline stores as well as major retailers. Prices begin at AED 3,999 for the Pro model, with the Ultra offering a more advanced camera configuration.
Both the Pura 80 Pro and Ultra feature a 1-inch main camera sensor, a size more commonly found in high-end compact cameras than smartphones. A larger sensor generally allows for more light capture, which can lead to brighter images with less noise—particularly in low-light settings. On the Pro, the 1-inch sensor is paired with a variable aperture ranging from f/1.6 to f/4.0, while the Ultra integrates what Huawei calls an “Ultra Lighting HDR Camera” with a reported 16 EV dynamic range.

The Pura 80 Ultra also debuts a switchable dual telephoto system, which uses the same large sensor for both a 3.7x medium telephoto and a 9.4x super telephoto lens. The setup is designed to provide detailed images across different zoom ranges while maintaining colour accuracy and low-light performance. Huawei says the Ultra Chroma processing system assists with colour reproduction, particularly in challenging lighting conditions.
By combining larger-than-usual image sensors with a shared telephoto design, Huawei appears to be addressing one of the common limitations of smartphone photography—sensor size. While most devices rely on smaller sensors that can struggle in dim light, the Pura 80 Series aims to close the gap between smartphone and dedicated camera performance.

For users who prioritise mobile photography, especially in variable lighting, the Pura 80 Series offers a technical approach that favours light capture and detail retention. Whether this translates into a noticeable difference for everyday shooting will depend on real-world use, but the hardware upgrades suggest a focus on improving results where smaller-sensor smartphones often falter.
