Huawei has introduced the Smart Door Lock 2, an updated version of its 2022 smart lock, currently available exclusively in China. This new model adds several hardware and software improvements, most notably a wide-angle AI-powered camera, enhanced access features, and integration with the HarmonyOS ecosystem. Priced at CNY 2,499 (roughly $345 USD), the product remains region-locked for now, with no global release date on the horizon.
The highlight of the Smart Door Lock 2 is its built-in 161-degree wide-angle “cat’s eye” camera. Designed for improved home security, the camera uses AI to detect human presence and stream real-time video directly to a screen located on the interior side of the lock. This allows homeowners to monitor activity at their front door without relying on separate security systems. The camera feed can also be accessed remotely via smartphone or a HarmonyOS-powered smart home device, enabling surveillance even when users are away.

In terms of access control, Huawei’s latest lock offers five unlocking modes: AI palm vein recognition, fingerprint scanning, passcode entry, physical key access, and smartphone-based remote unlocking. While some competitors, such as Xiaomi, offer a broader range of unlocking options, the Smart Door Lock 2 prioritizes biometric reliability and integration with Huawei’s smart ecosystem. The inclusion of palm vein recognition, a relatively rare feature in consumer-grade locks, emphasizes Huawei’s focus on secure and touchless access.
Additional features include two-way audio communication for remote visitor interaction and push notifications when the door is left open. Security is further reinforced with a C-level lock cylinder, which meets China’s top security classification for residential locks.
The device runs on HarmonyOS 5 and is powered by a 10,000mAh rechargeable lithium-ion battery. According to Huawei, this battery should last between three and five months per charge, depending on usage patterns. While it may not be a revolutionary upgrade, the Smart Door Lock 2 introduces meaningful enhancements over the original 2022 version and continues to develop Huawei’s broader push into the smart home space.

For now, this model is limited to Chinese consumers, and Huawei has yet to indicate whether international availability is planned. Still, its combination of AI-assisted monitoring, biometric access, and smart home integration positions it as a strong contender in the expanding smart lock market—at least within its home territory.
