Huawei has officially confirmed the launch of a new, innovative foldable smartphone next week, teasing a device with a unique form factor. CEO Richard Yu announced the “unexpected product,” which is widely speculated to be the highly anticipated Pocket 3.

Adding to the anticipation, a recent post by reputable tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo indicates that Huawei will unveil a significant phone next week. According to the leak, the Pocket 3 will be the first device to ship with Huawei’s HarmonyOS Next operating system straight out of the box.

The Pocket 3 is rumored to feature a 6.28-inch inner display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and a 3.48-inch cover display. Other speculated specifications include a 50-megapixel primary camera, water and dust resistance, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

HarmonyOS Next represents Huawei’s push for software independence, as it is a complete break from Android, not supporting Android applications.1 This move signifies Huawei’s continued effort to establish its own ecosystem.
