October 24, 2024

Honor has taken the wraps off MagicOS 9.0, its latest Android 15-based operating system, a week prior to the unveiling of its Magic7 flagship phone series. This new OS boasts a significant focus on AI, introducing an enhanced voice assistant and a range of intelligent features designed to personalize the user experience.

Yoyo AI Agent: Your Intelligent Assistant

MagicOS 9.0 elevates the Yoyo voice assistant to a new level, rebranding it as an “AI Agent.” Powered by Honor’s proprietary language model, MagicLM, the AI Agent promises a deeper integration with various applications. This enhanced assistant understands natural language and computer vision, learns from user habits, and adapts to context, providing a more intuitive and personalized experience.

One example of the AI Agent’s capabilities is its ability to seamlessly handle tasks like ordering coffee. With a single prompt, it can complete the purchase and verify payment, acting as a personal assistant.

MagicLM: Enhanced Efficiency and Performance

While the new 3B parameter MagicLM model has fewer parameters than its predecessor, it offers significant improvements in efficiency and performance. Honor claims an 80% reduction in power consumption, a 77% faster loading speed, and a 500% quicker word output speed. This translates to less storage and RAM usage, optimizing device performance.

AI-Powered Features for Security and Convenience

MagicOS 9.0 introduces an industry-first AI Deepfake Detection feature, designed to protect users from scams and enhance security. The OS also incorporates a suite of AI-powered tools for convenience and personalization, including:

  • Versatile Desktop: Customize your desktop experience with enhanced flexibility and personalization options.
  • Magic Lock Screen: Personalize your lock screen with dynamic content and interactive features.
  • Magic Style: Tailor the overall look and feel of the OS to your preferences.
  • AI Gallery: Organize and manage your photos with intelligent features.
  • AI Eraser: Effortlessly remove unwanted objects from photos.
  • Face Restoration: Enhance the quality of facial features in photos.
  • AI Image Expansion: Intelligently expand images while preserving detail.

Availability and Rollout

Honor has confirmed that MagicOS 9.0 will be available for over three dozen devices in the Chinese market. A global rollout is expected in the first months of 2025, coinciding with the international launch of the Magic7 series. More details on the global release and device compatibility will be announced at a later date.
