HMD’s Barbie flip phone: finally, a phone as smart as Ken

HMD’s upcoming Barbie phone, set for a global launch on August 28th, has been revealed through its TENAA certification, showcasing a classic flip phone design and modest specifications.

The device’s design heavily leans into the iconic Barbie aesthetic with a vibrant pink color and prominent Barbie logo on the lid. However, the overall appearance appears uninspired, reminiscent of a nostalgic toy from the early 2000s.

As expected for a feature phone, the specifications are quite basic. The phone sports a 2.8-inch TFT display with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. A smaller secondary display is also mentioned in the certification but is not visible in the provided images.

Internally, the phone is powered by a single-core 1.05 GHz SoC, coupled with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of internal storage. This configuration limits its capabilities to primarily basic calling and texting functions.

Other features include a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 32GB, 4G LTE connectivity, a replaceable 1450mAh battery, and a single rear camera with an LED flash.

While pricing information is yet to be revealed, it is expected to be an affordable option, targeting consumers drawn to the Barbie branding and nostalgic design rather than cutting-edge technology.
