Here’s the first look at Polestar’s smartphone which aims for seamless car integration

it looks ike Polestar isn’t just making a branded phone – it’s redefining the relationship between cars and smartphones. While Tesla’s Elon Musk merely hinted at a potential smartphone, Polestar is forging ahead with a device that could set a new standard for seamless integration.

Polestar’s Secret Weapon: Meizu

The Polestar phone, co-developed with Geely-owned Meizu, promises a unique advantage: It will utilize the same FlyMe OS found in recent Polestar models sold in China. This addresses a key pain point in a market where Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are absent.

The FlyMe Advantage

Leaked images suggest a stylish design, but the real innovation lies in the software. FlyMe Auto offers deep smartphone-car integration – think total customization, multitasking, and using your phone’s camera for video calls in the car. It’s a level of integration that even CarPlay and Android Auto struggle to match.

The Bigger Picture: China’s Innovation Race

Polestar’s move highlights the rapid pace of innovation in China’s EV market. With Chinese tech giants like Huawei and Xiaomi entering the automotive arena, legacy Western automakers risk falling behind technologically. Polestar, thanks to Geely ownership, knows its market and is offering solutions customers want.

Disrupting the Status Quo

Numerous automakers have dabbled in co-branded phones, but few have aimed for this level of integration. While Western users love their iPhones and Android devices, the transition to in-car systems remains clunky. Could Polestar’s model, born of necessity but driven by innovation, offer a better user experience and disrupt the established order?
