Google is expanding the capabilities of its AI-powered video creation tool, Google Vids, with the integration of custom video clip generation powered by its advanced Veo 2 model. This feature, now rolling out across eligible Google Workspace plans, allows users to generate short, realistic video clips directly within the Vids interface—eliminating the need for external stock footage libraries or third-party tools.
Veo 2, developed by DeepMind, is Google’s latest generative video model and was introduced in April 2024. It stands out from competing models like OpenAI’s Sora with its focus on realistic physics, refined visual quality, and camera-aware outputs. The model can produce clips up to two minutes in length at high resolutions when used independently. However, its integration within Google Vids comes with tighter constraints to optimize speed and usability: generated clips are capped at 8 seconds, rendered in 720p resolution, run at 24 frames per second, and adhere to a standard 16:9 aspect ratio.

Using the feature is simple. Within the Vids editor, users will see a “Generate video” button in the right-hand sidebar. After entering a description into the prompt field, the tool creates a preview clip using Veo 2. Once satisfied, users can insert the clip directly into their video project. It’s a workflow designed to support quick, creative content production for workplace presentations, announcements, tutorials, and more.
The new clip generation functionality is included at no extra cost for users on most paid Google Workspace tiers—specifically Business Standard, Business Plus, and Enterprise-level plans—as well as education-focused packages like Gemini Education and Gemini Education Premium. Those on more limited tiers such as Business Starter and Nonprofit plans can also access the feature temporarily, at least through May 31, 2026. However, the tool currently only supports English-language prompts and is limited to use on desktop browsers.
For teams looking to add dynamic, original visual content to their communications, this update significantly enhances the flexibility of Google Vids. While the 8-second duration limit may restrict some use cases, the ability to generate visually tailored clips with just a few words promises to streamline production and reduce reliance on generic assets.
As enterprise users continue to seek ways to differentiate their content, Google’s ongoing investment in integrating generative AI into its productivity tools points to a future where creating high-quality multimedia materials becomes less about technical skill and more about creative direction.
