Google has introduced a new feature to the Play Store that lets users remotely uninstall apps from any Android device linked to their account. The addition turns the Play Store into more of a central control hub for managing apps across multiple devices, a practical update for users who juggle several phones or tablets.
The feature, currently rolling out with Play Store version 48.8, adds an “Uninstall” option directly on individual app pages. It’s also accessible through the Manage apps & devices section, where users can filter by device and remove apps without physically handling them. This means that if an app is installed on multiple devices—say, a phone, tablet, or secondary device—you can remove it remotely from your primary one.
At launch, Google hasn’t confirmed how the feature behaves when a device is offline, such as whether the uninstall command queues until the device reconnects or simply fails. Still, the update represents a practical shift toward centralized app management within the Play Store ecosystem.
For users, the benefits are straightforward. The ability to uninstall apps remotely improves both convenience and security. It helps clear out unused or forgotten apps on older devices and can also act as a safety measure if a phone is lost, sold, or shared. Parents and families, for instance, can now manage apps on shared tablets or children’s devices without direct access.
This remote uninstall feature also complements Google’s broader effort to strengthen Android’s device ecosystem. Recent updates have included stricter content verification, new payment options, and upcoming battery-drain alerts—all aimed at giving users better visibility and control over their devices from one place.
The update continues to roll out globally, and users can check if they’ve received it by opening the Play Store, navigating to Profile > Settings > About, and selecting Update Play Store. Once updated, the uninstall option should appear across app listings, allowing quick and targeted removal of unwanted apps across any connected Android device.
