Google is rolling out a new feature to Google Meet that allows users to present live video directly from an external camera feed during meetings. The addition, which supports video at up to 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second, is aimed at simplifying the process of integrating secondary video sources—such as document cameras, professional webcams, or output from video production tools—into virtual meetings.
Previously, users seeking to present a custom video feed often relied on third-party software like OBS Studio to route video into Meet. That workflow, while flexible, required multiple steps: creating scenes, enabling virtual camera output, and manually selecting the virtual input in Meet. The new “present from camera” feature offers a more streamlined, native alternative by integrating this capability directly into Meet’s interface.
This update also brings broader improvements to Meet’s screen sharing functionality. Google has optimized how quickly users can initiate a screen share and improved the visual quality of shared content. Enhancements focus on dynamic elements such as scrolling documents and embedded video, which previously suffered from reduced clarity or lag.
A notable usability improvement addresses a long-standing pain point: if a second presenter ends their screen share, Meet will now automatically resume the previous active presentation. This adjustment helps reduce confusion and interruptions during collaborative sessions where multiple participants share content back-to-back.
The new features are rolling out now for users on Rapid Release domains, with a gradual rollout for Scheduled Release domains beginning June 11, 2025. According to Google, full visibility across eligible accounts may take up to 15 days. The functionality will be available to most Google Workspace tiers, including Business Standard and Plus, Enterprise plans, Education editions, and Workspace Individual subscribers.
This update follows a broader pattern of usability upgrades across Google Workspace. Recently, Google Drive added Gemini-powered summaries that highlight recent file changes, providing quick overviews of document edits and updates. The cumulative effect of these updates reflects Google’s ongoing push to make remote collaboration more fluid, responsive, and intelligent across its productivity suite.
