Google Gemini can now create illustrated storybooks with AI narration

Google has added a new feature to its Gemini AI app that allows users to create personalized, illustrated storybooks with built-in narration. Designed with families and children in mind, the tool can turn a simple description into a 10-page digital book complete with custom visuals and an AI-generated voice reading the story aloud.

The process starts with a prompt—anything from an original idea to a real-life event. Users can describe the plot, specify characters, or upload personal content like photos or children’s drawings to incorporate into the narrative. Gemini then generates a preview of the story and asks if the user would like to produce it as a full storybook.

Once confirmed, the app opens a split-screen editor showing the illustrated pages alongside a chat interface. This allows for fine-tuning the writing, adjusting plot details, or switching between a variety of art styles such as pixel art, comic book, claymation, crochet, and coloring book. Narration can also be customized, with options for different pitch ranges and delivery styles.

Google suggests a variety of use cases, from explaining complex concepts to children in an engaging way, to teaching life lessons through character-driven stories. It can also animate a child’s artwork, transform travel memories into whimsical adventures, or simply offer an interactive way for families to collaborate on creative projects.

The completed storybooks can be shared through a link or downloaded for printing, making them suitable for both digital reading and physical keepsakes. The feature supports more than 45 languages and is available worldwide in the Gemini app for both mobile and desktop users.

This update continues Google’s broader push to position Gemini as a multipurpose creative and educational tool, bridging generative AI with interactive, family-friendly experiences.
