Google’s Gemini AI has just become far more useful inside Chrome. The company has rolled out a new “Summarize Page” feature that lets users instantly generate summaries of any webpage directly within the browser — no need to open the standalone Gemini app or copy-paste URLs.
The feature, which began testing last month, is now widely available on both Android and iOS versions of Chrome. To use it, users simply press and hold the power button while viewing a webpage and select “Summarize Page” from the options above the query bar. Gemini then analyzes the visible portion of the page and produces a concise overview of the key information.
There are a few limitations: Gemini’s summaries are restricted to content currently in view, meaning it won’t pull in text that requires scrolling. Still, the functionality marks a major improvement over the earlier workflow, which required manually feeding Gemini a URL in order to get a summary.
Once a summary is generated, it also appears in the Gemini app, allowing users to revisit the page or continue the conversation later. Early reports suggest that the summarization feature works across nearly all sites tested, from news outlets to entertainment and sports pages.
This latest update is part of Google’s ongoing effort to more deeply embed Gemini into its core products. The company has already introduced AI Overviews in Search, conversational tools in Maps, and contextual assistance across Workspace apps like Gmail and Docs. Bringing Gemini into Chrome — the world’s most widely used browser — makes it an everyday assistant rather than a standalone chatbot.
While the company’s rollout of Gemini has been uneven at times, this update seems to land well with users looking for seamless AI utility. It also signals Google’s intent to keep narrowing the gap between browsing and AI interaction, positioning Gemini as a built-in intelligence layer for how users read, research, and navigate the web.
