Google is bringing its Gemini AI assistant to the living room, starting with TCL’s flagship QM9K TVs. The rollout marks the first time Gemini has been fully integrated into Google TV hardware, replacing the more limited Google Assistant with a conversational system designed to help users discover content, control smart homes, and even handle everyday learning tasks.
The QM9K lineup is positioned as TCL’s high-end offering for 2025, pairing the Gemini upgrade with 144Hz 4K QD-Mini LED panels. TCL says these deliver up to 30% more brightness and 60% additional dimming zones compared to last year’s models. Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, and Bang & Olufsen-tuned audio round out the hardware package, but the AI integration is what sets this series apart.
With Gemini, users can interact with their TV in more natural ways. Instead of memorizing rigid voice commands, you can ask broad questions like “Find a family-friendly comedy” or “What happened last season on Outlander?” and get context-aware answers, including follow-up suggestions. The assistant can also search by description if you forget a title, provide reviews before you press play, or explain concepts for homework help.
Google is pitching Gemini on TVs as more than just entertainment search. Early demos highlight its ability to support kitchen tasks, offer quick explanations of science topics, and teach new skills conversationally. In future updates, Gemini could tie deeper into the Google ecosystem—displaying personalized Google Photos, generating AI art for ambient mode, and handling smart home controls like lighting and thermostat adjustments.
TCL’s QM9K series also includes a presence sensor, allowing the TV to wake into a Nest Hub-style dashboard with weather, calendar events, and security feeds when someone enters the room.
The rollout won’t be limited to TCL for long. Later this year, Gemini is set to arrive on the Google TV Streamer, Walmart’s Onn 4K Pro, Hisense’s U7/U8/UX 2025 models, and additional TCL sets including the QM7K, QM8K, and X11K. With more than 300 million Google TV and Android TV OS devices already active, Gemini could represent a significant shift toward more useful, natural voice interaction on TVs.
