Firefox for iOS adds “Shake to Summarize” with Apple Intelligence support

Mozilla is rolling out a new AI-powered feature in Firefox for iOS 26 that lets users quickly generate webpage summaries with a simple shake gesture. Dubbed “Shake to Summarize,” the tool is built on Apple Intelligence for supported iPhones and offers a faster way to cut through long or cluttered web pages.

The feature works on iPhone 15 Pro models and later, where Apple’s on-device AI handles the summarization directly without sending data elsewhere. Owners of older iPhones aren’t excluded: they can still use the feature, but their text will be processed through Mozilla’s servers before the summary is returned.

Mozilla demonstrates the capability using a recipe website. A cluttered page filled with ads, commentary, and formatting is reduced to a concise list of ingredients and steps after a quick shake. Users can also trigger the feature by tapping a thunderbolt icon in the address bar. Summaries are currently limited to web pages of up to 5,000 words.

The function is launching first for English-language web pages in the US, with Mozilla promising wider availability for more languages and regions later. There’s no timeline yet for the global rollout.

For many users, the appeal lies in speed—deciding whether a long article is worth reading, pulling out essential information, or just skipping straight to the key points of a recipe or guide. However, Mozilla does note that, like all AI-generated outputs, summaries may not be perfectly reliable and should be used with caution.
