Dyson and Porter explore design-focused audio with limited OnTrac release

Dyson and Porter have partnered on a limited-edition release built around a design-focused interpretation of the OnTrac headphones. The collaboration pairs the company’s flagship headset with a hand-crafted Porter shoulder bag, produced in a run of just 380 sets worldwide. The bundle is positioned as much for collectors as for listeners who pay close attention to build quality and materials, reflecting a growing overlap between audio hardware and lifestyle accessories.

Porter’s contribution leans heavily on its reputation for functional craftsmanship. The bag is handmade in Japan using water-repellent fabrics and consists of 77 individually assembled components. A new external headphone holder was created specifically for this edition, underscoring the brand’s methodical approach to utility rather than ornamental design. Each package also includes a numbered resin tag — described as a tech slice — that incorporates fragments of OnTrac components and early development sketches. It’s a small detail, but one that gives the set a documentary quality that appeals to collectors who value design history.

Jake Dyson frames the project as an exercise in creating an object meant to be kept rather than cycled out with annual upgrades. His comments emphasize precision and simplicity, which aligns with Porter’s long-standing design philosophy. The visual direction follows a navy and khaki palette accented with Porter’s familiar orange lining. The headphones receive cosmetic updates as well, including CNC-milled Black Nickel caps engraved with a Porter emblem featuring the brand’s mascot wearing the OnTrac headset. The collaboration’s aesthetic choices nod to contemporary streetwear while keeping the materials and construction front and center.

The technical specifications remain consistent with the standard OnTrac model. The headphones use 40mm neodymium drivers rated for a frequency range of 6Hz to 21kHz, targeting extended low-end performance alongside detailed mids and highs. Battery life is marked at up to 55 hours with active noise cancellation enabled, supported by dual lithium-ion cells housed in the headband to distribute weight more evenly. The set maintains the model’s US Ergonomics certification, with multi-pivot gimbal arms, micro-suede cushions, and a clamp force tuned to preserve an acoustic seal without adding pressure during long sessions. Users retain access to the OnTrac’s high level of customization, with more than 2,000 possible combinations of finishes, caps, and cushions.

The limited-edition package goes on sale on 4 December 2025 for £649.99 through Dyson Direct stores, Porter boutiques in major cities, and both companies’ online shops. Each set includes the Prussian Blue OnTrac headband, Black Nickel caps, khaki and cinnabar ear cushions, the custom Porter shoulder bag and dust bag, and the numbered tech slice housed in a presentation box.

This release offers a meeting point between industrial audio design and Japan’s long tradition of meticulous soft-goods manufacturing. While the production run is small and the price places it firmly in the premium category, the collaboration illustrates how audio hardware is increasingly being shaped by fashion cues and limited-edition culture rather than purely technical considerations.
