Cinemacity leans on nostalgia with December Christmas screenings and festive snacks

Cinemacity is rolling out a straightforward but crowd-pleasing holiday program this December, leaning on familiar Christmas classics and a predictable lineup of seasonal snacks. Rather than reinventing the festive cinema experience, the chain is banking on the tried-and-tested appeal of Home Alone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which will screen every Thursday and Friday throughout the month at its Fountain Views (Dubai) and Al Qana (Abu Dhabi) locations. It’s a formula that has worked for cinemas for decades: put on the films everyone already knows, add a few themed treats, and trust that nostalgia will carry the rest.

Food and beverage offerings follow the same playbook. A Dhs36 combo pairs a large popcorn in various flavours with gingerbread crumble and mini marshmallows — a topping blend that seems determined to turn popcorn into dessert whether it asked to be or not. Hot chocolate will be available across all venues for Dhs23, while mulled wine is reserved for Fountain Views at Dhs70, giving that location a slight edge for anyone looking to elevate their movie night with something warmer than Sprite.

Ticket packages are structured to encourage group visits. Individuals can opt for a Dhs85 bundle that includes a movie ticket and a seasonal combo. A Dhs125 “For Two” package includes one paid ticket, one free ticket, and two combos — a familiar buy-one-get-one model dressed up for the holidays. Families can choose the Dhs225 package that includes four tickets and four combos, effectively gamifying popcorn consumption for the entire group. Offline vouchers are also available, likely aimed at last-minute gift-givers and office Secret Santa participants in need of a safe and neutral present.

Running from December 1 to 31, the Christmas program offers a predictable but dependable option for residents looking for low-stress seasonal outings. While the selection leans heavily on classics rather than introducing newer holiday titles, the approach fits the broader December routine: simple entertainment, snacks with extra sugar, and programming designed to be comforting rather than surprising.
