Bowers & Wilkins debuts Px8 S2 McLaren edition with refined drivers and themed design

Bowers & Wilkins has released the Px8 S2 McLaren Edition, the latest product in its ongoing collaboration with McLaren Automotive and the McLaren Formula 1 team. The special-edition model builds on the Px8 S2 wireless headphones, adding McLaren-influenced styling and several technical refinements aimed at improving sound quality and noise-cancellation performance. As with previous co-branded editions, the focus is on blending the audio company’s engineering approach with McLaren’s design language rather than delivering wholly new hardware.

The Px8 S2 McLaren Edition introduces an Anthracite Grey finish accented with the orange tones associated with McLaren’s racing heritage. These stylistic cues appear on the headband, earcups and trim, joined by subtle Speedmark graphics and diamond-cut logo plates. The materials remain consistent with the premium positioning of the Px8 line, including Nappa leather on the ear cushions and headband. While these visual changes are aimed at fans of the automotive brand, the underlying build and ergonomics follow the established Px8 format.

From a technical standpoint, the headphones use upgraded 40 mm Carbon Cone drive units, a continuation of Bowers & Wilkins’ effort to increase rigidity and reduce distortion. The redesign extends to the chassis, voice coil, suspension, and magnet systems, with each driver positioned to optimize stereo imaging. These refinements are incremental rather than radical, but they align with the broader push among high-end wireless headphone makers to narrow the gap between Bluetooth models and wired audiophile equipment.

Active noise cancellation has also been updated, with the claim that unwanted sound can be reduced more effectively without sacrificing midrange and treble clarity. This is an area where most premium headphone brands continue to refine algorithms and microphone arrays, and the Px8 S2 appears to follow that pattern. As with any ANC system, its effectiveness will vary depending on travel, office, or outdoor environments, but the updates are positioned as an improvement over previous Px8 iterations.

The Px8 S2 McLaren Edition is the third co-branded headphone from the partnership, following earlier limited editions that aligned with McLaren product launches. While the collaboration leans heavily on aesthetics and brand alignment, it also serves as another step in Bowers & Wilkins’ gradual evolution of its wireless lineup.

The headphones will be available starting 19 November through the company’s website and select retailers at £729 / €829 / $899. For listeners already considering the Px8 S2, the McLaren Edition offers a themed alternative with modest hardware enhancements and a design tailored to fans of the team.
