Atari 2600+ gets a Pac-Man makeover in limited edition yellow console release

To mark the 45th anniversary of Pac-Man, Atari and Namco are collaborating once again—this time with hardware manufacturer Plaion—for a themed re-release of the Atari 2600+, reimagined in an unmistakably bold Pac-Man yellow.

Originally launched in 2023, the Atari 2600+ is a modernized version of the iconic 1977 console, designed to support legacy cartridges while incorporating contemporary features such as HDMI output, USB power, and support for multiple screen resolutions. The new Pac-Man Edition keeps that same technical foundation but departs from the familiar woodgrain aesthetic in favor of a bright yellow finish inspired by the classic arcade character.

The console features themed design elements throughout: Pac-Man and the ghost quartet appear on the front panel, while the top features a yellow cartridge slot and matching knobs. The included CX-40+ wireless joystick is also finished in yellow to complement the system.

The Pac-Man Edition of the Atari 2600+ includes a “Pac-Man Double Feature” cartridge. This contains two titles: the original Pac-Man for the Atari 2600, first released in 1982, and Pac-Man 7800, described as a new, arcade-style interpretation of the franchise. While the former is a relic of early home console gaming, the inclusion of a new version provides something fresh for collectors and nostalgic players alike.

Pre-orders for the console open July 23rd, priced at $169.99, and include the console, one yellow joystick, and the dual-game cartridge. Additional CX-40+ wireless joysticks will also be available separately at £29.99 each. These will be offered not only in yellow, but in four additional colors representing the game’s ghost characters: Inky (blue), Blinky (red), Pinky (pink), and Clyde (orange).

This limited edition console release follows the recent announcement of a Namco-themed expansion for Atari 50, Atari’s interactive game history collection, signaling a renewed focus on collaborative nostalgia between the two companies.

For collectors or longtime fans of classic gaming, the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition serves as both a functional console and a tribute to one of the most recognizable franchises in video game history.
