Apple’s next-gen Vision Pro headset might be packing more horsepower than anyone expected. While earlier reports pointed to the M4 chip, fresh leaks suggest the Apple Vision Pro 2 could debut with the yet-to-be-announced M5 processor — leapfrogging expectations and putting it on par with Apple’s top-tier Macs.
The current Vision Pro launched with an M2 chip — already behind Apple’s chip curve at release — so an M5 upgrade would mark a major performance shift for the mixed reality headset’s second generation.
The new rumor stems from code snippets Apple allegedly leaked by accident, discovered by MacRumors. The same leak hints at:
- Apple Watch Series 11 with no major speed upgrade
- Next iPad mini moving to an A19 Pro chip (from today’s A17 Pro) with Apple Intelligence support
While the leak’s full scope is unclear, the potential jump to M5 would mean better graphics, faster multitasking, and more future-proofing for demanding MR apps.
Launch Timing
Apple hasn’t confirmed when Vision Pro 2 will land, but with the original model turning two in February, the announcement could come within months. The M5 chip is also yet to be officially revealed, making this rumor all the more intriguing.
If true, Apple may be signaling that Vision Pro 2 isn’t just a modest update — it’s a power move.
