Apple has begun teasing the arrival of its next-generation MacBook, powered by the new M5 chip. In a post on X, Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing, shared a short video featuring a laptop silhouette shaped like a Roman numeral “V” and the phrase “coming soon.” The accompanying caption—“something powerful is coming” followed by a pointed “Mmmmm”—all but confirms that Apple’s fifth-generation silicon is about to debut.

The teaser follows a series of leaks and reports pointing to an imminent M5 launch across Apple’s hardware lineup. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman recently reported that a base-model MacBook Pro featuring the M5 chip would be announced this week, alongside updated iPad Pro models already spotted in unboxing videos. Gurman also noted that a new version of the Vision Pro headset, equipped with a faster processor, could be unveiled around the same time.
While Apple’s teaser doesn’t specify whether the first M5 machine will be a MacBook Pro or Air, the timing suggests a broader platform refresh. The company typically updates its entry-level and professional Mac lines simultaneously, introducing efficiency and graphics gains while maintaining battery life and thermals consistent with previous models.
The M5 chip is expected to continue Apple’s focus on AI performance and energy efficiency, following the incremental architectural improvements seen from the M3 and M4 generations. Based on Apple’s recent silicon roadmap, the chip will likely bring upgraded neural processing capabilities, improved graphics cores, and better power management to handle both creative and machine learning workloads natively on-device.
The announcement also hints that Apple may be accelerating its silicon cycle to keep pace with AI-driven competition from Qualcomm and Intel, both of which have been positioning their latest PC chips around “AI PC” branding. With M5-equipped iPad Pros already in circulation and a new MacBook now teased, Apple appears ready to make its next hardware reveal official within days.
