Apple celebrates Black History Month with new Unity Collection

Apple has unveiled a special edition Black Unity Collection to honor Black History Month and celebrate Black culture and community. The collection features a custom-woven Apple Watch Sport Loop, a matching watch face, and unique wallpapers for iPhone and iPad.

Inspired by the rhythm of humanity, the Black Unity Sport Loop weaves together the colors of the Pan-African flag: black, green, and red.  The raised and recessed loops create a lenticular effect, revealing a dynamic interplay of colors as the user moves their wrist.

The Unity Rhythm watch face features custom numerals formed by intertwined threads of red, green, and yellow.  The watch face reacts to the gyroscope, animating the numerals when a user raises their wrist to check the time.  Distinctive, rhythmic chimes mark every hour and half hour.

The Unity Rhythm iPhone and iPad wallpapers feature the word “Unity” in a custom lettering, which changes orientation when the device is unlocked and locked.

Apple is also supporting several organizations dedicated to promoting creativity, community, and rhythm. Grants will be awarded to the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans, the Battersea Arts Centre in London, the Music Forward Foundation in Los Angeles, the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, and the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville, Tennessee.

The Black Unity Sport Loop is available for order on the Apple Store online starting today and will be available in Apple Store locations beginning this week. It is priced at $49 (US), AED 199 (AE) and comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes.  The Unity Rhythm watch face and wallpapers will be available in upcoming software updates.

The Black Unity Collection is a testament to Apple’s commitment to celebrating diversity and supporting organizations that make a positive impact in communities around the world.
