Anker’s MagGo: MagSafe SD card reader for iPhone

Anker, known for its innovative mobile accessories, has introduced the MagGo USB-C Adapter. This compact device, compatible with laptops, tablets, and smartphones, adds SD and microSD card reading capabilities, opening new doors for content creators and storage-conscious users.

When paired with an iPhone 15 or 16, the MagGo unlocks a powerful feature: the ability to record ProRes 4K video at a smooth 60 frames per second. This requires a memory card with at least 220MB/s write speeds and 256GB capacity.

One of the adapter’s standout features is its MagSafe compatibility. This allows it to magnetically attach to the back of an iPhone, offering a convenient and unobtrusive solution for external storage while filming. Recognizing that this positioning might block the iPhone’s charging ports, Anker thoughtfully included an additional USB-C port on the MagGo, capable of pass-through charging up to 42.5W.

The MagGo promises impressive data transfer speeds of up to 312MB/s, which is the theoretical limit for UHS-II memory cards. Real-world speeds may vary depending on the specific card and its usage history. Even with slower SD or microSD cards, users can still leverage the MagGo for external video recording on an iPhone 15 or 16, though with potential limitations on frame rates and resolution.

Available in white, black, or teal, the Anker MagGo USB-C Adapter retails for $34.99, making it an accessible tool for expanding your iPhone’s capabilities. Whether you’re a filmmaker capturing high-quality footage, a photographer needing to quickly offload images, or simply someone looking for additional storage on the go, the MagGo offers a versatile solution that seamlessly integrates with your Apple device.
