Anbernic has expanded its Android-based handheld lineup with the launch of the RG477V, a device positioned to handle more demanding console emulation while keeping pricing within the mid-range segment. The company says the new model is capable of running emulators for systems such as the PlayStation 2 and Wii U, reflecting the steady rise in performance seen across modern handheld gaming hardware.
At the center of the RG477V is the Dimensity 8300 processor from MediaTek, a 4nm chip typically found in upper-midrange smartphones rather than dedicated gaming handhelds. The processor combines four Cortex-A715 performance cores, led by a 3.35GHz prime core, with four Cortex-A510 efficiency cores, alongside a Mali-G615 MC6 GPU. This hardware configuration puts the RG477V closer to premium Android handhelds than earlier Anbernic models that focused on lower-power chips.
The device is available in two configurations. The base version includes 8GB of LPDDR5X memory and 128GB of internal storage, priced at $199.99. A higher-end option increases memory to 12GB and storage to 256GB for $239.99. Both variants support TF card expansion up to 2TB, which remains important for users with large ROM libraries.

Display specifications are a notable part of the package. The RG477V uses a 4.7-inch LTPS in-cell panel with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1280×960. It supports refresh rates up to 120Hz and includes black frame insertion, a feature intended to reduce motion blur when running games at 60 frames per second. This focus on display smoothness suggests Anbernic is targeting enthusiasts who care about accurate and responsive emulation.
On the software side, the handheld ships with Android 14 and supports more than 30 emulator types in addition to standard Android games. Hardware features include Hall-effect joysticks with RGB lighting, dual speakers, a six-axis gyroscope, and an active cooling system using a heat pipe and fan. Power is supplied by a 5,500mAh battery, with Anbernic estimating up to eight hours of gameplay, and charging is handled via USB-C at up to 27W.
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3, and DisplayPort output over USB-C, enabling 1080p external display output and dual-screen setups for supported systems. The RG477V is offered in black and retro gray finishes, with optional bundled SD cards. Early buyers ordering before December 23 are eligible for a $20 discount.
The launch arrives alongside a wave of new Android handhelds, including recent announcements from GameMT and Ayaneo, underscoring how competition in this space is increasingly defined by mobile-class processors and higher refresh rate displays rather than purely retro appeal.
