5 things to expect at Google’s August 2025 event: Pixel 10, Watch 4, and more

Google’s annual Made by Google event returns this year with a slightly earlier-than-usual date: Wednesday, August 20 at 9 PM UAE time (GST). While the showcase will highlight the Pixel 10 series and a few other ecosystem products, don’t expect any seismic shifts. Based on the leaks and confirmations so far, most announcements appear evolutionary rather than revolutionary.

Here’s what to realistically expect from the August 2025 event—and what it means for current Pixel owners or those considering a hardware upgrade.

1. Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro: Triple Cameras, Familiar Package

The biggest confirmed reveal is the Pixel 10, which adds a third rear camera for the first time on a base model. The overall design, however, is nearly identical to last year’s Pixel 9. The new Tensor G5 chip is expected to bring modest efficiency gains, but don’t expect a dramatic performance boost. Qi2.2 wireless charging support will be limited to official cases, and rumors suggest other specs—including display and battery—are largely unchanged. In short, it’s more refinement than reinvention.

2. Pixel 10 Pro Fold: More Durable, Not Dramatically Different

Google’s third-generation foldable is expected to feature a larger, brighter cover screen, an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, and a slightly bigger battery. These are worthwhile durability upgrades, especially for the UAE’s dusty outdoor environments, but users hoping for a thinner or radically redesigned foldable will likely be disappointed. Software enhancements tailored to the foldable form factor also remain unclear.

3. Pixel Watch 4: Bigger Battery, Small Evolution

Leaks suggest that the Pixel Watch 4 will come in 41mm and 45mm sizes, with thinner bezels and modest battery improvements. It should launch with Wear OS 6 and Material 3 Expressive, Google’s new design language. That said, performance may stay the same, as it’s reportedly still running the Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip—now in its third generation on Pixel Watches. Expect minor visual polish and deeper fitness coaching integration, but no groundbreaking features.

4. Pixel Buds 2a: Finally, Budget Earbuds with ANC?

The long-neglected Pixel Buds A-Series, last updated in 2021, may finally get a successor. Dubbed Pixel Buds 2a, the new model could bring Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) to Google’s budget tier—a much-needed upgrade in a competitive mid-range market. There’s little concrete info beyond leaked colors, but a refresh is overdue, and ANC would help align these with rivals from Samsung and OnePlus.

5. Material 3 Expressive: A Visual Overhaul for Android

Google has been slowly integrating its Material 3 Expressive design across its apps, and this event could mark the debut of the full Android OS redesign. Expect smoother animations, bolder color usage, and more dynamic layouts—especially on Pixel devices. While mostly aesthetic, this update could help give Android a more modern, unified look across devices, especially when paired with the new Pixel hardware.

Final Thought: Temper the Hype

Made by Google 2025 looks like another year of safe iterations rather than bold leaps. Unless you’re using a Pixel 7 or older, or entering the ecosystem for the first time, you may not find compelling reasons to upgrade. Google seems focused on refining rather than redefining—offering minor performance boosts, battery bumps, and more cohesive software styling.

If you’re in the UAE or GCC, this could still be a good year to adopt the Pixel ecosystem if you’ve been waiting for regional maturity. But for existing Pixel users, especially those with the 9-series, this event may be more interesting for software than hardware.
