I’ve spent an embarrassing amount of time thinking about power banks. Not in a “spreadsheet of battery specs” kind of way, but in the everyday frustration sense. You know the feeling: your phone is dying, you grab a portable charger, and suddenly your sleek phone turns into a thick sandwich of metal, glass, and lithium.
Xiaomi’s 6mm UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000
That’s why the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 grabbed my attention almost immediately when it quietly appeared around the announcements from Mobile World Congress 2026. In a sea of bigger batteries, faster charging speeds, and increasingly complex accessories, Xiaomi went the opposite direction. It made something radically simple: a magnetic power bank so thin it practically disappears.

At just 6mm thick, the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 is thinner than most smartphones on the market. Even modern flagships like the iPhone 17 are noticeably thicker. Holding the power bank in your hand almost feels strange at first, because your brain expects something heavier and bulkier. Instead, it feels closer to holding a metal card than a traditional battery pack.
That design philosophy sets the tone for the entire product. This isn’t trying to replace your travel power bank. It’s trying to make everyday charging feel effortless.
The ultra-thin design that actually changes daily use
Most portable batteries are built like miniature bricks. They live in your backpack, maybe your coat pocket, and you only pull them out when things get desperate.
The Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 flips that idea. The 6mm thickness and 98-gram weight mean it’s lighter than two eggs. Xiaomi actually leans into that comparison, and honestly it’s not far off. When snapped magnetically to the back of a phone, the added bulk is surprisingly subtle.

Because of that, I can imagine leaving this thing attached for hours while walking around the city. It doesn’t ruin the ergonomics of your phone, and it still slides into your pocket without feeling like you’re carrying a second device.
The magnetic snap-on charging experience feels familiar if you’ve used MagSafe-style accessories before. Once aligned, the power bank locks into place and starts charging wirelessly without cables.

It’s one of those small conveniences that ends up mattering more than raw battery capacity.
A battery that prioritizes engineering over size
Inside the incredibly thin shell sits a 5,000mAh battery cell, though the rated usable capacity lands closer to 3,000mAh at 5V/2A once energy conversion losses are factored in. That’s pretty standard for compact power banks.
The real technical trick here is the battery chemistry. Xiaomi is using a silicon-carbon battery with about 16 percent silicon content, which allows higher energy density than traditional lithium batteries. In plain English, it means more power squeezed into less space.

The internal structure also includes a large graphite heat-dissipation sheet measuring roughly 4369mm². That’s an unusually large thermal component for something this thin, and it helps regulate temperatures during wireless charging.
So even though the power bank looks like a minimalist slab of metal, there’s actually some clever engineering happening inside.
Wireless charging that focuses on practicality
Wireless charging speeds top out at 15W, which is fast enough for everyday use without pushing the limits of heat or efficiency.
If you’re using it with the latest Xiaomi devices like the Xiaomi 17 series, you’ll get the full 15W magnetic charging experience. iPhones, including the iPhone 17 lineup, will typically charge closer to 7.5W due to Apple’s wireless charging limitations.

While 15W might not sound groundbreaking in 2026, it’s actually the right balance for a product this thin. Higher wireless charging speeds usually require thicker coils, more aggressive cooling, and larger batteries.
In other words, chasing faster speeds would have completely ruined the entire point of the product.
And if you do want more speed, the USB-C port supports up to 22.5W wired charging. That’s useful in emergencies or when you need to power something like wireless earbuds, another phone, or a tablet.

Even better, the power bank supports charging two devices simultaneously. It can charge a phone magnetically while powering another device through USB-C. You can even recharge the power bank itself while it’s charging something else, which makes it surprisingly flexible for such a small device.
A design that feels closer to jewelry than a gadget
The aesthetics here are classic Xiaomi minimalism. The power bank comes in three colors — orange, silver, and black — all wrapped in an aluminium alloy shell that gives it a subtle metallic sheen.
The logo is photolithographically etched into the surface, which sounds like marketing jargon but basically means it’s clean and flush rather than printed on top.
The edges are rounded, the body is smooth, and the overall shape feels closer to a premium accessory than a typical battery pack.

There’s also a fibreglass surface coating designed to resist heat and fire, paired with an excimer finish that keeps the texture smooth and comfortable when holding the device.
In other words, Xiaomi clearly wanted this thing to feel nice in your hand, not just functional.
Wide compatibility with modern smartphones
While Xiaomi obviously designed this accessory with its own ecosystem in mind, the magnetic charging works with a wide range of modern smartphones.
Apple’s recent iPhones, including the iPhone 17, iPhone 16, iPhone 15, iPhone 14, iPhone 13, and iPhone 12 families are all compatible with magnetic wireless charging.

Magnetic alignment works particularly well with these devices because of Apple’s MagSafe-style magnet layout. Once attached, the power bank stays firmly in place while delivering wireless power.
Even if magnetic alignment isn’t used, standard Qi wireless charging still works across many smartphones, making the accessory flexible for everyday use.
The accessory quietly solves a very real problem
What makes the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 interesting isn’t its specs. It’s the philosophy behind it.
Most portable batteries try to win by being bigger, faster, or more powerful. Xiaomi looked at the category and asked a different question: what if a power bank was so thin and light that you didn’t hesitate to carry it every day?

And that’s where this product succeeds.
It won’t fully recharge your phone multiple times. It won’t replace your travel battery pack. But it will quietly save your phone from dying during long afternoons, busy workdays, and nights when you forgot to plug in before leaving the house.
Sometimes that’s all you really need.
