With the latest version of MEGABOOM 3 Bluetooth speaker, Ultimate Ears continues to deliver excellence in sound! The Megaboom 3 builds on its existing line of beautifully designed speakers which deliver great listening experience adding some design changes, sonic boost and new features.
With the outdoors in mind, the portable MEGABOOM 3 comes in wrapped in a thick new high quality fabric which protects the insides of the device from dust and water. The MEGABOOM 3 is IP67 rated ( can withstand 1 meter of water for 30 minutes), and floats in water as well to become your perfect pool companion.
The latest version remaining a cylinder covered in a tough fabric. The volume buttons are now more flush, with the edges becoming smoother. The MEGABOOM 3 comes in four dual-toned colors: Night (Black), Sunset (Red), Lagoon (Blue), and Ultraviolet (Purple).
The charging port has been repositioned (previously on the bottom), to let you charge the MEGABOOM 3 in an upright position.
The volume controls no longer reside on a chunky rubber strap on the front of the speaker, giving the new design a 360 degree sound. There’s also a thin strip on the back which can be opened to reveal the micro-USB port. The other major feature addition is the ‘Magic Button’ that is positioned alongside the on/off buttons. The Magic Button is used to play/pause/skip tracks, with a long press to kickstart a playlist.
For added convenience, the MEGABOOM 3 is compatible with the Ultimate Ears POWER UP charging dock (sold separately) for a simple, wireless charge.
MEGABOOM 3 connects to your devices over Bluetooth with a range around 45 meters , and can connect to up to two sources at the same time. The app also gives the ability to pair over 150 multiple speakers together to amplify the sound. Functionality wise, the app lets you set up multiple playlists, and skip through them with the long press feature, although it’s worth mentioning that the new playlist feature is limited to Apple Music on iOs, while Android users will can to use Deezer. Additionally, the speaker reaches a higher level of volume without distorting and delivers a 360-degree sound output. Ultimate Ears has included four different sound presets and an equalizer options to tweak to your taste.
We were super happy with the sound output on the Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM 3, it sounds much better than its predecessor for sure. The sound is clearer, crisper and frequency range feels wider, and deeper base. And finally, with a battery life rated at 20 hours, the Megaboom 3 delivered on its promised during the test we ran.
Verdict
The new speaker feels super nice in the hand, lightweight and great looking. We highly recommend it for holidays, road trips, beach and pool outings. the MEGABOOM 3 is probably the best speaker Ultimate Ears has released so far.
