Quality twitter apps are hard to come by. Though iOS enjoys a plethora of apps — Tweetbot chief among them — android apps have fallen behind, even though Falcon and Carbon are still considered best of the bunch.
Tweedle sprung to life quite a while back, but it was a simple, bare-bones application that did the basics but not much else. As of today’s version (2.0.3.3), it has matured enough to be the best replacement app for twitter’s default.
There are many reasons why Tweedle is great:
- Slick, elegant UI, implementing a Google-Now-like card for tweets without bogging down the phone (I am using an HTC One Mini)
- Transitions and scrolling are smooth
- Ability to add and remove columns, including lists (yay!)
- Not be subjected to twitter’s “discover” and “trends” (though you can add them as columns)
- Customisable UI (dark/light with accent variations and DIY themes)
- Customisable notifications (no push, though — 5 minutes minimum delay)
- Choose image upload provider
- In-line media previews
- Conversations
- Translate tweets
The free version may or may not display a tiny ad you’d hardly recognise when you open a tweet in full view (which you hardly need to, since you can do most of what you want on the timelines) and you can opt for the paid version to remove them. Given twitter’s stubbornness in making their app less user friendly with every update, Tweedle has become my go-to twitter app for android. There is absolutely no reason to not give Tweedle a try.
