Once again, Skullcandy has given my ears the opportunity to be pressed against soft pillows; ones that play my favourite tunes with admirable sound quality. Although not too different from the previous Grind release (in terms of sound quality), the Grind Wireless does not fail to impress me, and leave me wanting more. I’m someone who constantly has earphones plugged in, even if it’s for a two minute walk to the grocery, and with the Grind Wireless, I’m left wanting to listen to music 24/7 – which is not advisable folks.
DESIGN
Skullcandy have kept their plush foam ear pads for the wireless version of the Grind, which was fantastic. You really can listen to your music with this headset for hours on end and not even want to take a break. Sporting the famous Skullcandy logo, the Grind Wireless is just as lightweight as the Grind and isn’t too bulky when wearing.
The right ear cup features the control buttons, which can control the volume of your music, as well as playback! But these only really work when using the headset wirelessly, rather than when you connect the AUX cord (understandably). The built in microphone also sits on the same ear cup, but I haven’t noticed any improvement with the Grind Wireless. While on a call, I was told that it was like I was speaking from a distance. But this doesn’t really come as a surprise. There is also an LED indicator, to let you know when your device is connected or not.
The same ear cup also contains the audio jack and charging port.
The Grind Wireless comes in a range of different (and refreshing) colors. Not too flashy, but colorful enough to make you stand out.
PERFORMANCE
Testing the headset out on a variety of genres, I found that the Grind Wireless holds up flawlessly for each one. Want to have a amplified bass when listening to Queen? You got it. Feel like partying to some Years & Years but not leave your room? Just put the headset one, crank up the volume and have your own dance party.
The bass in general is amped up, but not too much that it’s more different than the Grind. Tunes such as “Arabella” and “R U Mine?” by Arctic Monkeys played wonderfully through the headset. Being more fast-paced and instrument oriented tracks, I was able to pinpoint every instrument from the other, while still hearing Alex’s clean vocals. The first album that I listened to while testing out the headset was the self titled album by Royal Blood. Now, this band only consists of two instruments – bass and drums. Royal Blood has a very distinct sound, and the headset perfectly broadcasts how unique these guys are. Absolutely no distortion, with a crisp sound quality, the Grind Wireless really provides you a joyful listening experience.
The Grind Wireless holds up well in terms of noise cancellation. I had a few of my friends test it out, and tried speaking to them when the volume of the music wasn’t even that high up, and they couldn’t hear a sound. You really do feel like the music is the only thing that surrounds you when using the headset.
As for noise leakage, this was a big improvement. The Grind did leak a lot of noise, but I found that when a friend increased the volume on the headset, I still was unable to know what she was listening to. Unlike the Grind, you don’t have to increase the volume on your device too much. It stayed the same as it would with the regular iPhone earphones.
FEATURES
Being a wireless headset, the Grind Wireless has a very user friendly and efficient Bluetooth pairing system. To pair a device, simply press the on/off button for 3 seconds, until the light turns purple. The same button can also be used to answer calls, and pause/play music. With the addition of volume buttons, you’re now able to skip through tracks by pressing the “+” button for around 3 seconds, while holding the “-” button for 3 seconds, lets you go back a track.
The Grind Wireless holds up to around 10 hours, and even when the battery is completely drained out, you can plug it into your phone using the provided AUX cable, and can be charged through a USB port
Although there weren’t too many differences from the previous Grind release, the Grind Wireless has made quite the impression on me. A comfortable headset with superb sound quality is really what everyone needs – especially if it provides you with a hassle-free, wireless experience.
The Grind Wireless sells for AED349!
