Sennheiser HD 800 S review!

Remember how Sennheiser released the Orpheus headphones that cost €50,000? Well, if you’re looking for a pair of household headphones that cost a little less than that, the HD 800 S is exactly what you need.

With the HD 800 S, you can buy them off the shelf! Sure, it costs AED 6944, but think of it as an investment.

The enhanced sound reproduction of the HD 800 S is achieved through the addition of the innovative absorber technology that was pioneered in the Sennheiser IE 800 – a breakthrough that preserved the audibility of very high frequency sounds by eliminating a phenomenon known as the “masking effect”, where the human hear struggles to hear frequencies of sound when lower frequencies of a higher volume occur at the same time. By absorbing the energy of the resonance, Sennheiser’s patented absorber technology prevents any unwanted peaks and allows all frequency components – even the finest nuances – in the music material to become audible. This innovation was a key element in making the IE 800 the world’s best sounding in ear headphone, and in the HD 800 S it helps to bring even greater purity and precision.

Performance

The HD 800 S unsurprisingly delivers stunning audio quality because of the more larger ear cups, the sound floats around you. It fully encapsulates you in your music and you’re left feeling so utterly pleased.

The depth of the bass with each song is truly remarkable. I was able to listen to every aspect of each song without any trouble. To change things up, I let my dad pick the music and he expectantly picked his country music. Of course, there’s not a lot of protruding bass lines with many country tunes, but I was able to still enjoy the experience. Look, I’m not one to listen to Toby Keith on a daily basis (not that I hate him or country music), but the HD 800 S made it an interesting listening experience. I couldn’t focus on the bass like I usually do, but the vocals were crisp and I could tell instrument from instrument.

And then of course, I had to switch out the music and opted for Lane Boy by twenty one pilots and I was able to distinctly hear the in-depth bass that I love deeply in the track. The sound quality is good enough to drown out all the surrounding sounds and if you try to use these while working on a computer, good luck because it was hard for me to focus on typing since the sound quality just blew me away. The HD 800 S just takes you to a whole other world and it truly feels as though you’re listening to your music through a sound system instead of headphones.

Comfort & Design

Obviously, these headphones aren’t made to be carried around. You need to plug them into an amplifier and ultimately, they become household headphones. Which isn’t a bad thing for most audiophiles, especially those who don’t like wearing bulky headphones outdoors.

While they are big in size, they’re not uncomfortable to wear. They actually sit quite nicely and the ear cups are soft and gentle, providing a peaceful listening experience. These headphones were made for music enthusiasts who like a bit of style in headphones. They’re not super flashy, but have a very futuristic look to them that’s quite pleasing to the eyes.

Ultimately, if you’re looking to splurge on headphones, the HD 800 S is the way to go.
