Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT Review, Bass Amplified

Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT Review #1

Sennheiser has a good track record when it comes to Bluetooth headphones (headphones and earphones in general, to be honest). The German audio company has always managed to give their customers the best quality devices that almost always delivers a stunning bass and powerful audio all around. According to the blurb on their website, the Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT “offers high-quality wireless sound for everyday listening on the move. The closed-back, around-ear headset features Bluetooth 4.0 and aptX compatibility to deliver true Hi-Fi sound with a satisfyingly dynamic bass”, and boy does it do exactly that.

Performance

The Sennheiser HD 4.40 pretty much works with every genre of music. You can listen to tracks like Week Without You by Miley Cyrus and move on to Bad Company by Five Finger Death Punch and still have a good time while marvelling at the remarkable sound quality.

I say this a lot, I probably won’t ever not say it, but I love headphones/earphones that have the ability to punch me in the ear with bass. That’s always the first thing I listen for when I’m trying out new devices. The HD 4.40 definitely holds up to my expectations and needs and has a powerful bass, that does amplify every now and then, but in a way that you want it to. I never found myself thinking that there was too much bass.

If the earpieces are fitted snug around your ears, you’re not going to need to up the volume on your phone while listening. The headphones are pretty loud all on their own, which makes up for the lack of volume controls on the device itself. They manage to transport you into a whole other world – a world where you can play your music as loud as you want without your family members yelling at you to turn your “noise” down. It also helps that the HD 4.40 cancels out noise pretty well, so you won’t be able to hear the grievances of others in your vicinity.

I highly recommend listening to Paramore’s new release After Laughter on the Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT because it’s truly an otherworldly experience. Highly attributed to the new power pop sound the band has going on, it makes you feel like you’re in an 80’s teen/indie movie. You know, locking your bedroom door and listening to your music while you lay in bed and stare at the ceiling with all your teen angst – that kind of feeling.

One track that stands out while listening with the Sennheiser HD 4.40 is ‘Pool’. The track itself has a lot of different elements and while there is an ample amount of bass, the headphones don’t just give you only bass. You’re clearly able to listen to how Williams can transport you to the 80s with just her voice and the upbeat, yet calming, instrumentals that just take you to another dimension.

Comfort and Design

When I mentioned in the cons section that the device could be too bulky for some, I meant that purely for the self-conscious listener such as myself. This surely doesn’t bring down the experience, I just know that there are other people out there who don’t like to be stared at in public while they’re trying to be in their own world with their music.

The Sennheiser HD 4.40 has a minimalistic design that keeps it chic and clean. With its matte black colour and grey detailing, it’s simple but not in a bad way. Minimalism wins in this scenario. The headphones make up for the simplicity with the sound. It has your standard Bluetooth headphones buttons – the power button and a button to answer calls. It also comes with an audio jack as well as a charging port.

As for comfort, I can honestly say that these are probably some of the most comfortable earpieces I’ve had the pleasure of wearing around my ears; another headphone that comes to mind is its predecessor, the Sennheiser HD 4.30. They’re immensely soft and I was able to wear them for hours without feeling any discomfort. They sit so comfortably around your ears and let you have the brilliant listening experience that you deserve.

Ignoring the fact that the HD 4.40 is quite bulky, they do win me over. It’s portable, has excellent sound quality and you can wear them for hours on end without wanting or feeling the need to remove them. The Sennheiser HD4.40 is a definite winner.
