We spent 48 hours with the newly launched oppo reno, and here is what we like and dislike about it.The Variant we have is the 256 gb version with the snapdragon 710, 6gb of ram.Our model is in jet black but the reno is also available in Ocean Green, Nebula Purple, Pink Mist, Coral Orange & Inspiration Edition
Camera
The camera is quite impressive, one of the better ones that we have seen. It sports a 48 megapixel rear camera which is not just for show but actually packs quite a bit of a punch. Unfortunately the 48 megapixel camera does not support zoom but the pictures can be zoomed into once they are taken. A few samples can be found below.
The selfie camera was one that peaked our intrigue as it is a 16 megapixel camera which uses a pivot system rather than the pop out we have seen. It’s quiet fast when switching between the two cameras.

Display
The Reno features a 6.4 inch super AMOLED display and a screen-to-body ratio of 86.8% .The resolution of the display is 1080×2340 pixels with a pixel density of ~402 ppi.The display is protected by gorilla glass 6 a industry standard. One of the things we liked about the display was that it did away with the notch design.
Build
The reno features a glass rear and front with it being seamlessly being sandwiched between a aluminum frame. The jet-black glass at the rear is curved to give it a more natural feeling in hand which also makes one handed use easier.
Security
The device features face-unlock, an in screen fingerprint scanner & if you aren’t as bold to leave the old passcode oppo has you covered. While using the face-unlock we tried making weird faces, wearing different glasses etc but the feature was fast & was not fooled. The in-display fingerprint scanner is very fast, much faster than touch ID on IOS with it being as reliable as the face unlock.
Battery
It has a 3765 non-removable mAh battery. The reno employs Vooc 3.0 flash charging. I was able to charge it from 0% to 100% in under 75 minutes.I was able to get almost two days of battery life with some mild media consumption & social networking. We would have loved to see wireless charging on the reno but no phone is perfect.
Software and Performance
The reno feels very quick with the snapdragon 710 & 6 gb of ram .It comes with Android 9.0 pie running the ColorOS 6 which is their custom OS. The animations such as the one for the in-screen fingerprint reader & face unlock are very cool. Navigating the through the OS feels very familiar and I had no issues moving from my iphone to the reno. The reno also has 256 gb of storage for future updates.
Speakers
While testing out the renos speakers, we felt that the stereo speakers were great for listening to music, when indoors. While outdoors we noticed that the stereo speakers aren’t as loud. The call quality was pretty good thanks to active noise cancellation. The reno retains the headphone jack.
Final Verdict
The Oppo reno feels like a mini-flagship. It has a great screen,a great camera, flagship performance, large battery & lots of storage. For the price of AED 1899 it comes with some amazing features such as face-unlock & a in screen fingerprint scanner.
