LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Review

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is a game that includes the storyline of all the 9 main star wars movies. With some additional content from their other media as well.

The game follows the main storyline of the movies, where you can start from any of the first movies from the 3 trilogies. We started with Episode IV: A new hope. Once you complete these first movies, you will unlock the next movie from that trilogy.

This means you can start from either Episode I, Episode IV or Episode VII.

Episode I
Episode IV
Episode V locked
Episode VII

Each movie has its own unique elements and that shines through the games. We like this approach as it makes you want to play the game but also limits the story a bit.

The storytelling is a bit childish, keeping true to the LEGO brand. Their playful style of storytelling in their movies is very evident here. The characters are the original ones, but also much goofier. It makes for a silly fun time. A great game to serve as a break between your more serious games like COD or Dying Light.

The gameplay itself is good. You control one character at a time, but you always travel in a group. Allowing you to quickly jump between characters as you play along. Each character has unique abilities which you can take advantage of throughout the game. E.g. Jedis have lightsaber and can do mind tricks, while specific droids can do specific tasks, like R2D2 can open doors, C3PO can translate conversations or activate certain panels. Some characters have guns, while others can double jump. There is enough variety to keep you switching characters.

We loved this dynamic game play as the game never really forces you to play any specific character at any given point, however some puzzles or collectables require using the skills of multiple characters together to progress.

This is a relatively open world game, where once you finish the mission objective that map area becomes open for a free play. Which means you can come back and do collectable farming to your heart’s content. The Free Play mode is lots of fun as you can even choose different characters that you may not get access to during story missions.

We especially enjoyed playing as The Mandalorian, where you get a special treat of Baby Yoda Grogu following you around as an NPC in his little pod. (Note, this specific character is from an add-on that might cost extra)

It’s safe to say that this game is not for everyone, but here at AG did enjoy it and recommend it for any Star Wars fan who wants to play a more chill game that is still loads of fun.
